Deep Feelings T-Shirt Collection - Design # 5

We're all touched by joy. So deeply – and so undeniably – we can’t help but smile. ;o)

Cuvier Beaked Whale (a.k.a. JOY)
Depth: 2.992 m
Scientific name: Ziphius cavirostris

Joy = Perpetual Smile

Joy is often regarded as a pretty common feeling, one that comes by very easily. It’s there when we hear a joke, or when we pet a Golden Retriever puppy. Yeah, come to think of it, it is common. But it is also one of the deepest feelings known to men.

Cuvier Beaked Whales are known for having a short beak with a mouth-line that curves upwards and looks like a smile. Like most whales, they display a very docile behavior which, combined with their vaguely smiling appearance, reminds us of how we could and should all live our lives: joyfully and with a smile on our faces. ;o)

The Cuvier Beaked Whale ranks amongst the diving champions of the sea, reaching depths of 2.992 m (approx. 9,816 ft).

From Context to Concept

About the day I shamelessly stole a slogan idea from skateboarding's G.O.A.T Rodney Mullen. ;o)

The year is 2013 and I'm watching Rodney's TED Talk "How context shapes content" in which he explains how his creative process works:

"So, you hit this wall. Then you adjust. And as you adjust, you have to sort of let the cognitive mind rest back, pull it back a little bit, and let your intuition go."

He was talking about how he creates tricks, but it might as well have been about how we create concepts, such are the similarities between both processes.

"From context to concept" was born because it makes sense. Because it feels right. But mostly because it allows me to thank "The Maestro" for the inspiration.

Thanks Mr. Mullen. This one's for you.

What does generosity feels like? Like a ray of light cutting through the darkness.

Chilean Devil Ray (a.k.a. GENEROSITY)
Depth: 1.896 m
Scientific name: Mobula tarapacana

Generosity = Arms wide open

Generosity is one of those deep feelings that just make everyone happy: those who express it and those who receive it. Nothing beats the feeling of being welcomed with open arms. Of being embraced. Let us all act more generously towards one another.

Rays are the ultimate representation of what it means to live with arms wide open. If you’ve ever touched a ray, you know that – unlike most sea animals whose skin is rugged – rays’ skin feels like velvet. It’s smooth. It’s comfy. It’s inviting. Which is exactly how every single act of generosity feels like.

Of all types of rays, the Chilean Devil Ray reaches the greatest depths: 1.896 m (approx. 6,220 ft).
