Ja-bu-ti-ca-ba

This post is about that time when my 4-year old niece taught me a valuable lesson: every conversation starts on a conceptual level.

It's a beautiful, sunny, January afternoon in Brazil.
I'm working on my laptop.
She's doing her favorite thing in the world: drawing.
Suddenly, as if thinking out loud, she goes: JA-BU-TI-CA-BA.
I'm like: Would you like some Jabuticaba?
She went: What is Ja-bu-ti-ca-ba?
I replied: It's a type of berry.

She looked at me. Smiled. And right there, I knew a conversation has started, as her brain successfully grasped the concept of a berry (mind you: she's a huge strawberry / blackberry / raspberry fan).

I couldn't help but think: "funny how concepts help to convey a message. No matter who's on the receiving end of it".

Oh, and no. She didn't want any Jabuticaba. Turns out she was, in fact, just thinking out loud. ;o))

Deep Feelings T-Shirt Collection - Design # 3

It’s called inner peace for a reason. Because it’s there. Deep inside each one of us.

Leatherback Sea Turtle (a.k.a. PEACE)
Depth: 1.280 m
Scientific name: Dermochelys coriacea

Peace = Endangered species

The Preamble to the Constitution of UNESCO declares that "since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that the defenses of peace must be constructed". Meaning: peace must be defended. Protected. Because it’s an endangered species.

The Leatherback Sea Turtle is the “peace and love” icon of the seven seas. If you’ve ever watched “Finding Nemo”, it’s that “hippie / surfer dude” turtle (his name was Crush ;o)), who was super chill and super laid back. Unfortunately, it’s an endangered species. Just like peace in our current times.

And just like peace touches us at an incredibly deep level, the Leatherback Sea Turtle has been found swimming at depths that reach 1.280 m (approx. 4,199 ft)!

C'est quoi l'idée ?

Part philosopher, part humanist, all genius. Please, give it up for late advertising extraordinaire, Philippe Michel.

"C'est Quoi L'Idée ? - Publicité, création et societé de consommation" is a book presented by Anne Thévenet-Abitbol (former Director of Strategic Planning at French agency CLM BBDO) and it invites us into Mr. Michel's insights and thoughts on how advertising and creative endeavors are, first and foremost, ALL ABOUT THE IDEA.

If you're a francophone, read it. If you're not, try to find it in your native language. If you can't find it, go learn French and then read it.

I promise you won't regret it. ;o)

Merci monsieur Michel.
